Survival Series - Returning Home

safe home.PNG

Well, Stan, it’s time to come home.  Yippeeee!  But WAIT!

You don’t know what may have happened and what damage might be around.  Your pet will be excited about being back in their space just like you, but you need to STOP and check everything out before you let your pet go.

There are all sorts of changes that may have happened while you have been gone.  Some of these you may be able to see and some may be invisible to you but really important to your pet.

While you wander around and have a look keep your pets on a leash or in their carriers.  Pet’s know their spaces and understand safety by familiar landmarks and smells.  Sometimes these might be gone and that may upset your pet and even make them disorientated and feel unsafe.

Check:
  • Has anything been broken or damaged that might harm my pet?
  • Are the gates and fences still secure so they can’t get out?
  • Do they have a safe place to go to while they settle in again?

Just like people pets get stressed and their behaviour can change.  Keep an eye on your pets while they settle in again.  Check they are sleeping, eating and feeling safe.

If you are worried at all about your pet take them to your vet and get some advice.

Something to think about:
How will my pet let me know they are stressed?
What will they do?  How might they behave?

Stan and I are coming to the end of our information.  But we’ve got a couple of other bits that we want to share so don’t go anywhere.

Catch up again tomorrow
